You can tell a story using emojis. Soon you will be able to share your breastfeeding journey through emojis, too. So keep an eye out, breastfeeding moms and supporters. A breastfeeding emoji is coming to a platform near you.
Earlier this year, breastfeeding was approved under version 10.0 of the UniCode Standard. This version approved 8,518 new characters to expand our options for communication via text. Fifty-six of those characters are emojis, and one emoji in particular has us jumping for joy:
That’s right! One of the latest additions to emoji options is a woman breastfeeding a baby.
She holds the baby in the cradle position, which is one of the most popular breastfeeding positions chosen by moms.
The emoji comes with a number of modifiers for skin tone. These skin tone options apply to the mother. The breastfeeding baby’s head is recommended to be hidden to avoid a situation where the baby’s skin color would only match the mother.
Apple’s version of the emoji should debut later this summer. The release date for Google is currently unknown.
